The PhD candidates of the Doctoral Programme in Sciences of Antiquity and Archaeology – Project Pegaso of the Universities of Florence, Pisa, and Siena are pleased to announce the first edition of the Doctoral Conference entitled “Traces of Memory: Preservation, Transmission, and Transformation of Material and Immaterial Experiences in Antiquity”.
The theme of the conference, to be explored within the fields of Archaeology and Classical Philology, focuses on memory understood as a tool for dialogue with the past, following several possible lines of inquiry outlined in the attached file.
MA graduates, PhD candidates, and early-career scholars who obtained their PhD degree no more than three years prior to the abstract submission deadline are invited to submit a proposal for an original paper (maximum 350 words, excluding title and essential bibliography), along with a brief academic profile (maximum 100 words), by 2 March 2026.
Prospective contributors are kindly requested to submit their proposal to convegnodottorale.saaunipi@gmail.com, indicating “Proposal Doctoral Conference” in the subject line and specifying the relevant section (Classical Philology or Archaeology). The body of the email should include the following information: title of the paper, name and institutional affiliation, and an email address for correspondence. Proposals, written in Italian or English, must be submitted as anonymized PDF files. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the selection process by 2 April 2026.
Each presentation will have a maximum duration of 20 minutes, followed by a discussion. Presenters are invited to participate in person; however, remote presentations will be possible if necessary. Keynote speaker contributions are also planned. The Scientific Committee will consider the potential publication of the Conference Proceedings.
The Conference will take place on 7–8 May 2026 at the University of Pisa. There is no registration fee. Further information regarding registration, the conference venue, accepted proposals, and the detailed programme will be provided via the email address submitted and on this web page.
